Coming from an owner of highly reactive skin, it’s safe to say that I am a self-proclaimed skincare junkie. It is a constant journey trying to find what skincare products and ingredients work for my skin.
Back in the day, I would have been easily coaxed into glamorous packaging, excellent marketing, or simply something I’ve seen someone else using. More often than not, this method would usually result in them either not working for me or seriously pissing off my skin barrier. It’s been a huge learning curve to not get caught up in the hype of a product and actually do the research to focus on the ingredients and its formulation.
Introducing...Niacinamide. A ground-breaking skincare ingredient that is constantly popping up in the beauty industry.
What is niacinamide you may ask?
Also known as vitamin B3, niacinamide is a potent brightening skincare ingredient that screams plump, soothed, glowy, firm and hydrated skin.
So, what does niacinamide actually do?
It does a whole lot more than what meets the eye. Some of the benefits this miracle ingredient is best known for are:
- Calming skin tone and breakouts: it may sound scary but niacinamide is a boss at soothing irritated skin, from inflammation to unwelcome breakouts, it's suitable for just about any skin type.
- Anti-aging prevention/benefits: no one wants to get old and wrinkly but sadly there is nothing (...botox) that will stop wrinkles from forming. But fear not! Niacinamide can help with slowing the process by locking in moisture and keeping the skin surface firm.
- Instant refresh: this superhero ingredient provides results almost instantly. It revives dull, tired skin and turns it into a bright, healthy, dewy complexion.
Who can use niacinamide?
To put it simply, just about anyone! (Don’t forget to patch test if you're a newbie to any product.) Niacinamide is non-discriminatory and loves all skin types and just about everyone will see lovely changes.
Try to avoid using niacinamide products with other potent cosmeceutical ingredients such as AHAs, BHAs and PHAs. Doing so can lead to skin irritation, redness and inflammation. Whilst these side effects aren’t life threatening, using the combination of the ingredients results in one cancelling the other out, making the use of them both...pointless. It’s all to do with keeping the pH levels neutral but we won't confuse you with that. Just don’t do it, okay?
